Psychoanalytic Film theory

Psychoanalytic film theory is taking psychoanalysis theories from different philosophers and putting their theories into a film to see what it tells.
The founder of psychoanalysis was a Austrian Neurologist named Sigmund Frued. He had a theory that the brain was made up of 3 different parts. The ID, The Ego and The Super Ego. The ID is the unconscious mind thinking primitive thoughts. The Ego is the decision making part of the brain and the super ego is to control the ID's impulses and also persuade the ego in its decision to make the correct decision.
Jacques Lacan was a Pschoanalysist and was considered one of the most influential Pschoanalysist since Freud he came up with the 'Mirror Theory' which means when an infant reaches an age around 2 and see themselves in a mirror their realisation of being an object rather then being seen as apart of something. It then is said the rest that infants life is spent searching to be apart of something again which can never be done which he called 'objet petit a' (thing that will complete us)
uncanny theory, something from a childhood returning in an unfamiliar way. For example the film Chucky about a killer doll, we refer dolls to children and having one as a killer in unfamiliar 'uncanny'

Both of these theories can be seen in a recent movie called 'Oblivion' a movie based in the future of a apocalyptic world destroyed from a battle between mankind and an alien race. The main Character lives on earth with his wife who both work there for the human race now on a new planet given them orders. They're job is to protect machines draining the earths oceon. Throughout the film the main character see's memories of the old world and finds himself sneaking to a part of earth that still looks normal an sets up a little hut there. The character seeks a normal life and doesn't want to return to mankinds new home. This can be seen as his 'objet  petit a' he soon finds that the people controlling him are the alien race and what he thought was what's left of aliens on earth are the humans brings in Freud theory and the Aliens can be seen as the Super Ego, the main character as the Ego and what's left of the humans as the ID. This is because the humans tht are left encourage him to help destroy what he thought was his own, the aliens are controlling him and making him make the right choice which applies the Super Ego to them and the main character is the Ego trying to make his own choice.
