After Effects Basics

In the First lesson, we learnt the basics of after effects. For example importing a clip, by dragging the file we need into After Effects. And then creating a new composition by getting that clip in After Effect's and dragging it into the new composition. In this lesson we created Dancers with lights and a background and added a text to that background so it would look like this.

To create this all the relevant clips will need to be put into the new composition, they need to be put into the correct layers so that the dancers will be at the top so that the lights and text isn't in front of them and that they're all in correct position so it looks real.
Keyframing was introduced as well. To do this on the relevant clip if you want it to change position or size, you need to click the clip in its composition and choose the scale or position by clicking S or P and then click the stop watch next to it. Then move the clip in the comp how you want it to change further on in the timeline and click the stopwatch again which creates your two keyframes for where it starts and ends.
Once this is finished on the right hand side of After Effects is the RAM settings, press the Play/Preview button which will then load the clip together and play it.

48 Hour Project final

We finished editing our project which we was pleased with but we was unable to export it. We found this was due to one of the handy cams we used and was our own fault for not doing test runs with the camera. But we have learned from this for next time but we are pleased with how our project looks. Our team was me, Reggie, Rob and Ellis who all pitched in with directing, ideas, camera work and editing. We found that our pre production work needs more motivation to do it as it will help us with our work in the long run. We screened our project to the class and due to rendering problems some of the soundtrack and voice overs had been deleted so some scenes did not make much sense. But we got positive feedback for our Parody Documentary and was told camera work throughout was well planned and shot well. This has been good practise for my Single Camera Drama.

48 Hour Project 2

16/09/13
In our morning session we went out filming for 3 hours were we did our previous interview and changed the character profile around. We decided to do this as a more rude boy kind of character fit better for our audience and made the scene more funny for the audience. In the afternoon we spent a further 2 hours editing. During this editing we fit in a soundtrack to our intro to the programme, and also added new footage and a soft voice for a voice over to give the project a better look and feel of a documentary.

48 Hour Project:Filming 1

11/09/13
During lunch breaks we grabbed a handheld camera and spent 3 hours filming our project. We got over half the footage we needed and all our interviews with the students done. In the afternoon we grouped all our footage and began editing and putting it all into sequence. We did not have any problems when filming, it all went through in a few goes of trying. When editing we got all our shots into place where we wanted them but did not make time to cut the shots how we wanted them so we left that for another time.

48 hour Project: Pre Production

09/09/13
Our group discussed a project idea we decided on a inbetweeners type programme but soon changed this to a new idea of a comedy sketch of student life at college. We developed a draft script as the idea will be improvised to make it feel real. And finished up the rest of the ore production in the afternoon

Test screening

Today we learnt about test screening and the effect it can have on how the movie is made. We watched the film "little shop of horror" a theatre musical turned into a film. We watch it in parts and went back and watched the old test screening of the original. From this we saw how the test screen was more darker and more use of blood and the ending killed off the main characters which the audience didnt like. The new ending had the plant killed and the couple live happily ever after, when shown in theatre the main characters for and audience don't react badly to it. I said this is due to the fact in a film the director can get in close and personal with different shots like close ups which makes an audience have more emotion to the characters. I think the film had bad press because it was coming out at Christmas, when I believe Halloween would have been better for its ending.

Misleading Marketing

In film studies today we learned about marketing and how sometimes it can be misleading to the public. One half of the class left the room at one point while the other half stayed in and saw a poster of a Danny Dyer movie called 'Just For The Record' the other class then left the room and the half came in and watched a trailer for the same film. We then altogether voted on what genre we thought the film was and what it may be about and the class votes halved. This showed that films can be misleading to what it actually about.

We was then asked to make a poster for any film we wanted and gather images from the film and try turn into another genre film, Me and Reggie chose the horror Insidious and made a poster to make it look like a Romantic Comedy.
