'The Male Gaze' Laura Mulvey

The Male Gaze is meant to mean all films are made through the eye of a heterosexual male. Idea to show the curves of a woman and how a man would like to see it is often portrayed. For example we watched a clip from 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' where Jessica Rabbit is first introduced and the camera mainly focuses on her curves and cleavage. This proves Laura's theory quite well and it's seen again in a clip of Cameron Diaz when she is introduced in the film 'The Mask' the camera starts at her feet and slowly pans up past her cleavage and finally on to her face all in a slow motion way. This can be seen as how a man would want to see a girl. And shows what is shown on these close up shots aren't for the characters in the film but for the audience of screen to see.
